Text Box: “Wow”. That was my reaction when my House District voted to nominate me as their representative for district 14. I couldn’t be more honored to receive such support and confidence from people who took a leap of faith for someone who they barely knew. Well, its’ time they get to know me.

I come from a large Christian family of 8. My parents have been married for 49 years, and I have a sister and 4 brothers. Being 5 years younger than the youngest boy sibling, my parents were pretty well worn in by the time I came along.

As a native of Colorado Springs, I started out in District 2 schools, and when the city grew north, so it came to pass that my family moved north also. We moved into district 11 schools where I completed the last 2 months of the second grade at Madison Elementary.

I could go on and on about my childhood, but I have a very small box to type in, so, fast forwarding, after my high school graduation from Mitchell High, I moved to Nebraska to attend a small Christian college.

After receiving certifications as an Administrator to provide services and programs to the elderly, blind, disabled, mentally ill, and persons living with AIDS, I went on to obtain other certifications in this field to later become a consultant for those persons trying to obtain Medicaid benefits. I also received several C.E.U. certifications in Autism/Aspersers, Bipolar disorders, Gifted and Talented, and Twice Exceptional Children.

At some point in those later years, I met my lifelong partner of 18 years and got married and had 2 beautiful children. Now, I was a parent, and some might say a Helicopter parent (only a little bit).

With both children born with special needs, it became my mission to navigate the public school system like no other parent to make sure that my children received the best education possible. Some people say that public schools are the worst, but I say Public School is what you make it. So, far, I’ve donated 8000 hours to my children's school district. My son is still a student in district 11, and working hard towards that coveted 5th grade diploma. My daughter graduated from the Palmer High School I.B.(International Baccalaureate) Programme in 2007. (Proud Parent Moment) My daughter graduated at just 15, and became the youngest I.B. recipient in Colorado history, and went onto the University of Pennsylvania to become the youngest student to ever be accepted into their prestigious Engineering program. She also became the youngest African-American to ever be accepted into an Ivy-League...how's that for public school? It was because of this journey that I went on to donate an addition 2000 hours of service to several charities and started a mentoring/leadership program for young girls all over the state of Colorado.

As a volunteer in District 11 I have spent a lot of time working on several D-11 committees including being a parent liaison for the Gifted and Talented program. Some of the charities I have worked with include the March of Dimes and the Children’s Literacy Center, I have conducted seminars for future teachers on identifying gifted children and other topics. This is my second run for political office. In 2007, I ran for D-11 School Board, missing election by a mere 1000 votes. I received endorsements from the CPPE(Citizens to Preserve Public Education), HBA(Home Builders Association), The Pikes Peak Realtors Association, CSEA(Colorado Spring Education Association), and The Independent. I have learned to entertain good ideas no matter where they come from, and continue to be committed to bringing our education system into the 21st century.
I hope this short summery tells you some important thing about me and what kind of a representative I would be for you.
